Dear Ms. Carol:

Every year on World No Tobacco Day, the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) recognizes those individuals and institutions who have made significant contributions in tobacco control in the Region through the World No Tobacco Day Award. The award this year focuses on "Clearing the Air," and honors contributions to creating smoke-free environments.

It is my great honor to inform you that Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights has been chosen as one of six recipients of the 2001 World No Tobacco Day Award in the Region of the Americas in recognition of its long-standing support for advocacy for smoke-free environments. The results of ANR's efforts are evident in the increasing number of smoke-free ordinances in communities throughout the United States, and the resources provided by ANR are of value throughout the Americas.

Please accept my congratulations on your efforts.

Sincerely,

George A.O. Alleyne
Director
