Smokefree Maps 2000, 2005, 2010

Since 2000, the smokefree movement has made great strides. Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights has been able to work with our members and partners to pass smokefree workplace laws all across the country. Click here for our current lists and maps of state and local smokefree laws. See below for snapshots of smokefree laws across the U.S. in 2000, 2005 and 2010.

In 2000:
California led the way with local smokefree laws and a state law, Utah followed and local laws start to appear on the east coast.

By 2005:
Ten states had smokefree laws and hundreds of strong local laws dot the landscape nationwide.

In 2010:
34 states (plus DC and Puerto Rico) have smokefree laws in place, but exemptions still exist in many of those laws and some areas are completely without protections.
