Casinos MIA & Local 54 Buses Workers from Philly at Senate Hearing

February 13, 2023, Trenton, NJ— Atlantic City casino workers and a coalition of public health advocates gathered in Trenton to urge lawmakers to end the outdated practice of indoor smoking in casinos. During a hearing before New Jersey Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee, members of Casino Workers Against Smoking Effects (CEASE), the United Auto Workers, and representatives from several public health organizations testified in support of legislation including Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, American Heart Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Notably, no casino industry executives or representatives appeared. CEASE urged lawmakers to take the legislation to a vote as soon as possible.
