Local, state, and national partners will gather at Kennedy Plaza on the historic Jersey Shore Boardwalk to celebrate 15 years of smokefree air on April 15th. The current smokefree law protects New Jersey residents and visitors in workplaces, public places, restaurants, and bars with 100% smokefree and e-cigarette aerosol free air. However, thousands of workers and patrons in the state’s gaming industry, which is one of the largest markets outside of Las Vegas, remain exposed to secondhand smoke.  Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all Atlantic City casinos are required to operate as smokefree by Executive Order of the Governor.

As momentum for smokefree casinos continues, it’s imperative that New Jersey lawmakers make this move permanent. Operators have proven they can adapt to a smokefree model to prioritize employee and patron health.  The ANR team will be on hand for the celebration next week and will be going all-in on the call to action to close this loophole – it’s about health, and it’s about time!
