Lyan Joy Pernala joined the ANR Foundation in 2015 and works with national, state, and local partners to secure grants and contracts that ultimately expand smokefree air protections for all people. She has spent more than 10 years helping social justice nonprofits, including Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay, Foundation Academies Charter Schools, and the Council for Affordable and Rural Housing, to grow and find resources to support underserved populations.
On weekends, Lyan teaches ACT/SAT prep for low-income and first-generation college-bound high school students. Her passions also include coffee, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and visiting with her ginormous extended family.
Lyan has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.
