Every Month a Different Set of Stories
In honor of ANR’s 50th we’re telling stories to illustrate all the magical moments that have led us to nearly 63% of Americans protected from secondhand smoke. The series will feature musicians, casino workers, Tribal partners, smokefree coalition partners, and board members—past and present—and other partners and leaders, all of whom helped launch the nonsmokers’ rights movement and expand it into an international effort to protect people from the hazards of secondhand smoke.
Fifty years ago, Americans were in a cloud of smoke. You couldn’t eat out, take a flight, or even go to work without breathing in toxic secondhand smoke. Since ANR was founded, nearly 63% of people in the U.S. have won protections from secondhand smoke. But there’s still more work to do.
50 Stories for 50 Years highlights the stories behind the victories, as well as people like musicians, casino workers, and bartenders who are still fighting for their right to breathe clean air.
