CEASE PA To Announce List of Approved Candidates Who Align With 74% of Philadelphia-Area Adults Who Prefer Smokefree Casinos

Harrisburg, PA — Ahead of the November Election, Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects Pennsylvania (CEASE PA) will release its list of CEASE-approved candidates for Pennsylvania state legislature. CEASE is calling on all candidates, both incumbents and challengers, to join the movement to protect the health of casino workers by pledging to support closing the casino smoking loophole.

“State legislature candidates have the opportunity this election season to stand up for workers’ health and by doing so, side with the vast majority of voters in Pennsylvania,” said Mike Danay, casino worker and member of CEASE PA. “Smokefree casinos is a winning issue, with nearly three-quarters of Philadelphia-area adults wanting to see smokefree casinos. Still, casino workers have had to fight for years for the right to breathe clean air in their workplace. As the election approaches, we are calling on every candidate running for office to make their position clear: Will you stand with workers and commit to ending indoor smoking in Pennsylvania casinos?”

CEASE will be meeting with state legislature candidates ahead of the general election to ask everyone, up and down the ballot and across party lines, for their commitment to work for passage of smokefree legislation. Supporters will join the five incumbent candidates who have cosponsored or expressed their public commitment to vote for HB880, the bipartisan bill to close the casino smoking loophole.
