American Nonsmokers’ Rights (ANR) Foundation Statement

Oct. 13, 2020—This week the Tennessee Titans organization announced that Nissan Stadium will be a 100% smokefree venue (non-smoking and non-vaping) as part of its guidelines to reopen safely.

“Nissan Stadium is proud to join the list of venues supporting a smokefree Nashville,” said Titans Sr. Vice President, Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer Gil Beverly,” (as quoted in this news coverage from Fox 17).

Nissan Stadium is Nashville’s largest sporting and entertainment venue. It hosts the NFL Titans, and Nashville Soccer Club, but also numerous events and concerts. The new smokefree stadium policy is significant in the movement to extend smokefree protections in all workplaces in Nashville including restaurants, bars, and live music venues.

A newly formed coalition, Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville is working to highlight the need for smokefree protections for entertainers, fans, and venue staff in one of America’s premiere live music cities.  The ANR Foundation continues to monitor the movement of hospitality venues, especially casinos, re-opening smokefree during the pandemic.

With this announcement, 29 of 32 NFL teams now play in smokefree stadiums, including use of electronic cigarettes.
